F1-themed Exige breaks cover

(ORANGE) - The Lotus marque is celebrating its return to the world of Formula 1 racing by releasing a special edition of its popular Exige sports car.

The Exige S Type 72 is named after the legendary Lotus 72 racing car that won 20 races and a total of five titles between 1970 and 1973. It was also a part of the only posthumous drivers’ title victory ever, helping the late Jochen Rindt to win four consecutive races before his death at Monza in 1970. His team-mate Emerson Fittipaldi (who later secured the 1972 drivers’ title in a 72) won the penultimate race of the season in a 72 to give Rindt the 1970 title.

Aside from its moniker, the Exige S Type 72 will feature the same black and gold colour scheme made famous by the 72 F1 racer, and is finished by the sign-writer who worked on F1 cars for Team Lotus during the ‘70s. Nice touch, Lotus!
