Products Reduce Vampire Power to Protect the Environment and Save Money

London, UK (PRWeb UK) July 21, 2010

With more and more consumers looking for smart and easy ways to protect the environment and save money, iGo® (Nasdaq: IGOI), the leading provider of green power management solutions, has launched two new laptop Chargers featuring iGo’s proprietary and patent-pending iGo Green™ Technology.

Vampire Power, or the energy drawn from devices that are plugged in but not in use, wastes 15 billion euros annually in Europe alone. iGo Green Technology products automatically detect when a device is fully charged (or disconnected), and shuts off the power drawn from the wall; then, once the battery requires further charging intelligently switch back on to provide the necessary power. iGo Green Technology virtually eliminates Vampire Power.

“Whether we realise it or not, devices continue to draw precious power from the wall, even when they are not in use,” said Rob Falconer , MD of iGo EMEA. “Whilst it can be impractical for consumers to unplug their devices every time they are not being used, iGo Green Technology makes it easy for consumers by automatically regulating power, thereby reducing the standby power that each device draws.“ iGo green chargers may also protect the Laptop’s battery by not continually trying to charge; only when the battery requires power does the Green charger switch back on. Aesthetically iGo Green laptop chargers have to be the best looking chargers in the market today and with their aggressive price points means consumers get “Green for Free.”

Two versions are available, one is a replacement wall charger, the other a total travel solution allowing you power your laptop in the Home, office, car or airplane. Both models ship with UK and eu plugs.

Laptop Charger with iGo Green Technology (MSRP 69.90)

Power Savings: Only uses power when the laptop needs it, the iGo laptop charger can always stay plugged in while reducing Vampire Power.

Functionality: Compatible with most popular laptops, the charger also comes with a USB port so that low power devices can be charged at the same time using either the USB charge cable that came with their Blackberry, iPod, Iphone etc or by using one of iGo’s power tips, this reduces the need to carry a separate charger or a voltage converter.

Design: This sleek laptop charger has a slim profile, measuring only 16.5 millimeters thick, which is thinner than a regular deck of cards.

Acronis, a provider of easy-to-use backup, disaster recovery and security solutions for physical, virtual and cloud environments, today announced that it has teamed up with Origin Storage to provide an easy to use package which allows users to migrate their operating system, applications, settings and data from hard disk drives (HDDs) to self encrypting drives (SEDs).

London, UK (PRWeb UK) June 8, 2010 — Acronis, a provider of easy-to-use backup, disaster recovery and security solutions for physical, virtual and cloud environments, today announced that it has teamed up with Origin Storage to provide an easy to use package which allows users to migrate their operating system, applications, settings and data from hard disk drives (HDDs) to self encrypting drives (SEDs).

This package comes as part of Origin Storage’s Enigma range which includes the Acronis True Image solution. This package can capture an operating system, including applications, settings and data. The tool will allow users to easily migrate from their existing system to a new SED.

The package comes with a kit that includes a USB / SATA data transfer cable for ease of installation. Once the image has been migrated, Origin Storage customers can also use encryption capabilities to lock down the data on their SEDs. The encryption data comes courtesy of Winmagic.

Andy Cordial, managing director at Origin Storage, explains: “Our aim is to provide a complete solution to enable businesses to migrate their system from one source to another. This can sometimes be a complicated process, which is why we have created this package. We looked at several imaging vendors, but Acronis was the obvious choice for its ease of use and reliable technology.”

David Blackman, general manager Northern Europe at Acronis, said: “As the demand for self encrypted drives continues to rise, Acronis True Image HD has become the preferred solution for vendors like Origin Storage who want to give their customers a proven, reliable product that helps users make the most of their technology investment.”

All three drives come in a 2.5 inch form factor and use 256-bit AES hardware encryption. The drives start at £249 for a 160GB version, and span up to 500 GB for £299.

(TELEGRAPH) - If you’re already a fan you’ll remember that last year’s HD2 was one of the best-looking, easiest-to-use business phones yet. It was far and away the best handset using Windows Mobile, the fiddly operating system from Microsoft. HTC cunningly overlaid Windows Mobile with its own interface, called Sense.

But despite the phone’s neat styling and highly successful HTC Sense interface, some felt the HD2 was just too big – its 4.3-inch screen was good for viewing documents but just too hard to hold comfortably.

You’ll guess, then, that the new HTC HD Mini is smaller than its predecessor. The screen is now 3.2 inches: still highly usable but small enough to mean the phone fits perfectly in the smallest hand.

Like the HD2, the Mini’s look is demurely stylish. The rubberised case feels good and the smooth glass front with flush virtual buttons is easy to use. HTC’s Sense user interface stands out again, sporting a cute weather and clock screen, complete with mist effects on cloudy days and windscreen wipers when it’s tipping it down.

(THE INQUIRER) - EXPENSIVE TOYMAKER Apple might be about to release a line of six-core Mac Pros that you will have to mortgage your house to buy.

A number of tech magazines are reporting that the Mac Pros will be based around Intel’s Core i7-970 chip and should be in the shops in a couple of weeks.

If turns out to be the case then Apple will have done a deal with Chipzilla to get the chips early again. A similar deal was done with Intel’s Core i5 chips when those found their way into Macbooks before they were widely available.

The rumour mill is also reporting that the machines will have Mac-edition ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics cards, which cost nearly £300.

The last major refresh to the Mac Pro equipped it with Intel’s Nehalem Xeon processors, with a high-end eight-core Mac Pro offering two 2.26GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5500 chips. Earlier this month, Apple upgraded that to a potential maximum 2.93GHz eight-core system.

All up we can expect any new Apple Mac Pro machines to be expensive in a way that many can’t comprehend. Apple usually takes the hardware costs of the machines and then about doubles or triples that to arrive at a retail price.

(TELEGRAPH) - The 30-second advert takes the viewer on a whirlwind tour of all of the functions the hotly anticipated tablet style computer is capable of, to a soundtrack of The Blue Van’s ‘There Goes My Love’.

The surprise spot advert launched after the news emerged last week that the iPad will go on sale in the US on April 3 and follow suit around the world on an unconfirmed date in ‘late April’. British consumers will be able to buy both the Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi and 3G versions of the device in late April, Apple confirmed. The launch date is slightly later than anticipated, but analysts have been warning that unspecified “manufacturing problems” could lead to some delays.

US shoppers will be able to buy the Wi-Fi only model on April 3, with the Wi-Fi and 3G model available later in the month. They can start pre-ordering the devices online and in-store from March 12.

Steve Jobs, Apple’s chief executive, had been spotted on the red carpet at the beginning of the Oscars service. The brief TV advert succinctly demonstrates the devices’ numerous capabilities. The iPad, which has a 10in touch-screen, can be used to browse the web, listen to music, and watch movies, as well as download apps and read electronic books, magazines and newspapers.

(CNET REVIEW) - We’ve previously looked at a less expensive version of Dell’s redesigned Inspiron Mini 10 Netbook, and the line continues to be a strong player in this crowded field, thanks in part to Dell’s name-brand ubiquity, as well as to the company’s ability to offer a reasonable level of configuration options.

One new configuration option is the Broadcom Crystal HD video accelerator, which replaces Nvidia’s Ion GPU in Netbooks that have Intel’s new Atom N450 CPU (which, for the moment, you can’t pair with the Nvidia Ion). For $409, you get a system similar to the $369 model we saw last month, but with the addition of both the HD video accelerator and a higher-resolution 1,366×768-pixel 10-inch display, which makes this a very smart upgrade if you’re willing to spend just a little more.

To be honest, the Crystal HD chip is a halfway solution at best, as it only does video playback, not the Ion’s basic 3D graphics. Until this week, it would only assist in playing HD video files on your machine, and not for streaming video from sites such as Hulu (which use Adobe’s Flash).

Fortunately, Adobe has finally made Flash 10.1 beta 3 available for download, which provides better HD Web video-streaming performance. Despite the definite improvements we saw, there’s still a major problem with relying on a beta version of third-party software to achieve the minimal level of functionality consumers would expect from a Netbook with something called an “HD video accelerator.”

We like the inclusion of a 1,366×768-pixel resolution display at this price, but if you’re looking to buy a Netbook for all-around HD video playback, we might hold off for future (and hopefully non-beta) software updates from Adobe, Broadcom, or both; or hang on until the next generation of Nvidia Ion Netbooks appear (and we can test them to make sure they work reasonably well). Netbooks are great for a lot of things, but streaming HD Web video still isn’t one of them.

(THE REGISTER) - The Department of Work and Pensions has picked Fujitsu to sort out its desktop computers, even though the company faces a ballot of union members to end its long-running dispute with the Unite union.

The multi-billion pound procurement deal was run in association with Buying Solutions - the government’s central procurement agency. It became part of a two-part deal - the department’s need for a new desktop supplier meant Buying Solutions could piggy-back on its purchasing power to get a better, wider deal for the second part of the contract. The two deals were valued at £4.5bn but no value has been put on the DWP’s share of the pot.

Fujitsu beat off competition from Cap Gemini and HP Enterprise Systems and ousted EDS, now owned by HP. HP said at the time that desktops were just a small part of its DWP work.

The Department hopes to continue cutting costs from its contract with EDS, which was due to expire. The contract starts in September 2010, following a “phased take on”. Some of the DWP estate will move to thin client computers as part of the change.

(THE REGISTER) - Apple says that the shipment delays of its top-of-the-line 27-inch iMacs aren’t because it has halted production while it works to correct the big boy’s display problems. The real reason for the delays? “The 27-inch iMac has been a huge hit with customers and we are working to increase supply to meet up with strong demand,” the company says.

So an Apple spokesman told The Wall Street Journal. The WSJ also reports that the spokesman told them that production of the troublesome iMac hasn’t been stopped, but that the company is working to solve the problems with the iMac’s flickering display and yellowish tinge.

According to MacBidouille/HardMac, unnamed sources told them that production of the ailing all-in-one had stopped, as we reported on Monday. Later that day, Apple released it second firmware fix for the iMacs, this one specifically targeted “to address issues that may cause intermittent display flickering.”

Responses to the firmware fix have been generally positive. Over on Apple’s discussion boards, in a massive thread with over 4,250 posts, reports of the fix’s efficaciousness comfortably outnumber those reporting problems. Happy iMaccers report: “I have not yet had a return of flickering after applying second firmware update,” “Positive result after fix,” and “So far haven’t seen the light flickering that I usually. Could this really be ‘it’?”
